TikTok says to downsize staff in Russia, watch situation

MOSCOW, Dec 16 (PRIME) -- Chinese short-form video hosting service TikTok is reducing its staff in Russia and weighing the situation in the country to decide on resuming its activities in full, the company said on Friday in a statement.

“This year we had to make a range of decisions regarding the work of our service in Russia, and now, unfortunately, we have to downsize the staff of our employees in the country. We deeply value these employees and their contribution to the platform’s development, and we guarantee their support in this complicated timed,” TikTok said.

The company said it will continue to watch the situation in the country to decide on safe resuming of the full-fledged service.

President Vladimir Putin signed the law in March that introduced administrative responsibility for distribution of false information about activities of the country’s armed forces and calls for sanctions against Russia. After that TikTok stopped spreading new content in the country and live streaming.
